ATLANTA - Organizers say thousands showed up for the hot meals served at Turner Field Thursday at one of the Southeast's largest Thanksgiving events for the needy.
An estimated 20,000 people attended Atlanta's Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless event. But, it's organizer -- Elisabeth Omilami -- says corporate donations are down 40 percent.
Omilami said, ``We're serving not just the homeless but also the working poor.'' She is the daughter of the late Reverend Hosea Williams who founded the event.
This year's sluggish economy has brought a tighter Thanksgiving to Georgia. Officials say more people -- particularly those who have suffered layoffs and job cuts -- are in need of services from community groups while the groups are having a harder time receiving donations from corporate sponsors that also have to undergo belt tightening.
