PARIS - Russia and France are tied at one-one after the first day of their Davis Cup Final in Paris. <br>

Sebastien Grosjean got the home side even in the best-of-five affair with a 7-6, 6-3, 6-love pounding of Yevgeny Kafelnikov in the day's second match. <br>

Russia took the early lead in the best-of-five showdown when Marat Safin beat Cup rookie Paul-Henri Mathieu 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. <br>
<br>
The doubles are scheduled for Saturday with reverse singles on Sunday. <br>
<br>
France is seeking back-to-back Davis Cup titles for the first time since 1932, and its tenth championship overall. Russia never has won the trophy.
