In tough economy, recent college grads looking for government jobs

ATHENS - In an economy burdened with layoffs, cutbacks and few new job opportunities, one employer has continued to grow -- the federal government. <br> <br> As jobs become harder to find, recent college graduates are turning to the government for employment opportunities. <br> <br> For the first time in years, the University of Georgia Career Center is organizing a career fair solely for students interested in nonprofit and federal agencies. <br> <br> The federal government plans to hire 250,000 people in the next two years as nearly 50 percent of its 1.8 million workers approach retirement. <br> <br> In addition, the newly created Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration are hiring thousands of employees. <br> <br> Several UGA students seemed lukewarm to the federal governments offer. They said they are not convinced they could find a better job that suits their abilities in the federal government.
