ATLANTA - Federal health officials said Thursday flu vaccines should be readily available this fall, with no shortages like those in recent years.
Doctors with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said there are 94 million doses available, the most ever produced. Flu shots are recommended for the elderly, those with weak immune systems and health care workers.
CDC flu expert Doctor Scott Harper said 80 percent of the vaccine supply will be available by the end of October, an improvement over recent years.
According to the CDC, in an average year, more than 100,000 Americans are hospitalized with the flu and about 20,000 die from flu-related complications.
