CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE - A street preacher's message has sparked a protest against him on the campus of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Donnie Morris of Wrightsville, Georgia, was confronted by about 40 students who argued with him yesterday. About 35 other students marched silently, carrying protest signs.

UTC senior Tim Ellison, who helped organize the protest, said Morris had been making slanderous comments about Muslims, Catholics, homosexuals and women.

Morris dismissed the protest, saying that when someone preaches the Gospel to sinners ``they hate it.''

UTC spokesman Chuck Cantrell said the campus allows street preachers and other demonstrators as long as they do not disrupt classes or any function of the campus.

Cantrell said, ``What better place than a college campus for the lively exchange of ideas?''

Morris planned to preach again Wednesday at UTC, then move to the Lee College campus in Cleveland before speaking at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
