MOBILE, ALABAMA - A Senate panel's review of the nomination of U.S. Magistrate William Steele to the federal appeals court in Atlanta has been delayed until the next session of Congress.
U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions, an Alabama Republican, said Thursday the nomination was held up by a backlog in the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The 51-year-old Steele has been a magistrate in Mobile since 1990, and declined comment on the Senate delay.
President Bush, who nominated Steele for the Eleventh U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in October 2001, would need to renominate Steele next year.
