ATLANTA - Emory University is investigating a complaint that a law school professor and Pulitzer Prize-winning author physically abused a staff member.
The director of operations for Emory's law school -- Gloria Mann -- seeks a temporary restraining order against professor David Garrow. She claims the professor ``has a long history of inappropriate behavior, loss of temper and verbally attacking'' her.
The complaint says on September 19 Garrow verbally abused Mann and later grabbed her by the wrists and pushed her backwards when she tried to walk away.
Garrow denies the allegations.
An arrest warrant for the 49-year-old Garrow was issued September 24. He was charged with simple battery -- a misdemeanor --, arrested by Emory police and later released from the DeKalb County Jail after posting a $120 bond.
The university is conducting an internal review.
Garrow won the 1987 Pulitzer Prize for his book ``Bearing the Cross: Martin Luther King Junior and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.''
