SMYRNA - The Smyrna suburb of Atlanta is now home to the nation's largest Boy Scouts volunteer service center with the opening of a 6,051,000-square-foot building.

The building is three-and-a-half times larger than the old Atlanta building and can accommodate 14,000 volunteers. Potential volunteers will go to Smyrna to register as scout leaders, buy supplies and host meetings.

The facility includes nine conference rooms, a conference center that holds seating of up to 220 people, a program center and the largest scout store in the nation.

Georgia Supreme Court Justice Harris Hines, who earned the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 14, toured the facility Tuesday, saying it will be a wonderful asset to volunteers and Boy Scouts in the entire metro Atlanta area.

Hines said, ``It's a beautiful facility. I think it will be a focal point for bringing scouts together in Cobb County and the Atlanta area, and I am just delighted to be a part of it.''
