NEW YORK - Welterweight champion Vernon Forrest of Atlanta, coming off two wins over previously unbeaten Shane Mosley, has signed a six-fight contract with HBO.

The signing by the network adds Forrest to a stable of fighters that includes Oscar De La Hoya, Lennox Lewis and Roy Jones Junior.

The 31-year-old Forrest was a 1992 Olympian and held a piece of the 147-pound title but had gotten little recognition before he beat Mosley in January and again in July.

Forrest (35-0, 26 knockouts) is expected to fight again in January, against an opponent to be selected.

He could possibly move up in weight at some point to fight De La Hoya, the WBC and WBA 154-pound champion.

No financial terms were disclosed.
