Athens man helps save Greyhound bus

LIMA, OHIO - Three Greyhound passengers - including an off-duty female bus driver and a man from Athens - subdued a man who had thrown himself onto the driver and steering wheel, saying he wanted to die, authorities said. <br> <br> State Highway Patrol troopers were already en route to the southbound bus on Interstate 75 in northwest Ohio early Friday, saying the driver had called them after the same man alleged another passenger had a gun. <br> <br> After the man was subdued, the driver stopped the bus and, with the help of the passengers, removed Bobby Whitley, 51, of Jackson, Mich. <br> <br> Whitley apparently saw the flashing lights of approaching patrol cruisers and started to run, but was taken into custody without resistance, the patrol said. <br> <br> No weapon was found and no one was injured. <br> <br> Whitley was charged with inducing panic, disorderly conduct and assault. <br> <br> Patrol Sgt. Mary Cosgrove credited the passengers who went to the bus driver&#39;s aid. She said the first person to grab Whitley was another Greyhound driver, Gracie Bentley, 50, of Hamtramck, Mich. She was joined by passengers Gary Lawrence, 29, of Athens, Ga., and Mashariki Childrey, 29, of Charlotte, N.C. <br> <br> The driver was identified as Keith Terrell, 43, of Toledo. <br> <br> Lima is about 70 miles south of Toledo.
