Former PTA president accused of stealing from school

BRUNSWICK - The former president of a Glynn County middle school parent-teacher organization was arrested in Mississippi and charged with stealing $2,142 from the group. <br> <br> Elizabeth ``Liz&#39;&#39; Howard Farrington, 42, was the former head of the Needwood Middle School Parent Teacher Student Association. She is accused of writing a check to herself using the organization&#39;s account on Dec. 28. <br> <br> Federal authorities also charged her with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. She was arrested Monday by FBI agents at her mother&#39;s house in Hattiesburg, Miss. <br> <br> She faces one to 10 years in prison for felony theft and another five years on the fugitive charge. <br> <br> The missing money was intended to pay for student activities and programs at Needwood Middle School, officials said. <br> <br> Farrington had previously been charged with embezzlement in Mississippi in 1980, according to the fugitive warrant. She was sentenced to 36 months of probation.
