School turns over report on lynching to FBI

VALDOSTA - Lowndes High School officials have turned over their report about a doll lynching in the schoolyard to the FBI. <br> <br> Principal Ann Rodgers said Wednesday she and Superintendent Steve Smith discussed it and decided turning their findings over ``was the appropriate thing to do.&#39;&#39; Rodgers says she faxed a copy of the report to the FBI Tuesday. <br> <br> Some parents and the local chapter of the NAACP are calling for the FBI to investigate the lynching at the south Georgia school as a hate crime. <br> <br> Officials suspended the three students for five days after they painted a doll black and hanged it from a schoolyard tree. <br> <br> Officials call the incident a stupid and embarrassing prank. <br> <br> Rodgers says students found the doll hanging from a tree last Thursday, took it down and turned it in to school officials. Students also discovered the letters ``KKK&#39;&#39; scrawled in a restroom, which has since been closed for painting. <br> <br> The superintendent says the incidents are not signs of larger problems in the community just north of the Florida line. <br> <br> The students are scheduled to return to school Thursday, but Smith says they will be transferred to the system&#39;s alternative school at least until the end of the semester in December.
