ATLANTA - United Parcel Service has added extra cargo flights to Asia in an effort to ease the backlog stemming from a ten-day shutdown of West Coast ports.
Atlanta-based UPS normally operates 30 weekly cargo flights to and from Asia. Officials say the number rises to 35 around this time of the year.
This week, UPS added six extra flights to meet demand for electronics and other products produced in Asia and shipped to the United States.
UPS Airlines spokesman Travis Spalding says the extra flights will continue as long as the demand is there.
