VALDOSTA - Officials at Valdosta State University are looking for an arsonist who has been starting fires in a male residence hall on the main campus.
School officials called the first fire on August 28 an accidental one. It started in a garbage can in Patterson Hall.
But school officials, firefighters and the state fire marshal now say they are investigating at least four separate fires. All occurred in public areas of the same residence hall between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.
The most recent occurred last Friday.
Patterson Hall is named for the street it faces. It is the largest male residence hall on campus, housing 300 men.
Vice president of Student Affairs -- Kurt Keppler -- says it's important to find the person responsible for setting the fires.
The fires have included everything from a burning roll of toilet paper to a burning rag to burning paper in restrooms, stairwells and other common areas.
Authorities are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the arsonist.
