DECATUR - Authorities in two counties are trying to untangle the case of a Lithonia man they say killed two people and chopped off their hands.
DeKalb County Police Lieutenant Pam Kunz said the suspect, who identified himself to Rockdale County sheriff's officers as 45-year-old Lorenzo Tyrone Critten of Lithonia, is charged with two counts of murder.

Kunz said officials are calling the suspect John Doe, because they have not yet been able to verify his identity. Fingerprint tests were being done by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Critten is scheduled to make his first appearance in the DeKalb County Magistrate Court Thursday night.
The body of 36-year-old John Fitzgerald Horne was found Monday off Farmer Road near Conyersl Kunz described Horne as a transient and an acquaintance of Critten.

Rockdale County Sheriff's Deputy Jodi Shupe said Horne's hands had been severed, apparently after he was dead, and the body dumped along the road. Authorities said Horne was shot in the chest Friday night or early Saturday.

Shupe said papers found on the body listed Critten as an emergency contact, and the suspect told authorities the body was that of his half-brother Dano Critten.
Police became suspicious after Critten offered false identifications and eventually took him into custody. Shupe said Critten led police Tuesday morning to an industrial park in neighboring DeKalb County where they found Horne's hands.
