SAVANNAH - Twelfth District Congressional candidates Champ Walker Junior and Max Burns are finding that the best offense includes acting offended.

Burns, a Republican, wants Walker to apologies for what he considers threatening language. A newspaper had quoted Walker's campaign manager as saying they would -- quote -- ``kill Max Burns in the election.''

Walker, a Democrat, has begun airing negative TV ads calling Burns an enemy of Medicare. But he took offense when Burns sent an e-mail accusing the Democrat of making similar attacks in anonymous phone messages.
The nasty turn could be a sign that the 12th District -- an open seat packed with Democratic-leaning voters -- isn't as safe for Walker as was once believed.
