Numerous accidents slowed commuters on most metro interstates during Tuesday's morning rush hour, and authorities say the clean-up from one of the wrecks will linger into Tuesday afternoon.

A tractor-trailer crashed through a barrier wall on Interstate 285 westbound at I-85 on the southside of Atlanta before 7 a.m., overturning an embankment.

A DOT spokesman said the trucker was apparently trying to avoid another collision between a truck and van.

The trucker was treated at Southern Regional Medical Center and released. No one else was inujured.

The truck, which was hauling large spools of thread weighing about ten pounds each, would have to be unloaded by hand before being uprighted. That was expected to take several hours.

Other wrecks included one before 9 a.m. that shut down three left lanes of the Downtown Connector northbound at North Avenue.
