LAWRENCEVILLE - It'll cost commuters a little more to ride on Gwinnett's express buses next month.
The Gwinnett County Commission voted Tuesday to raise one-way fares from $2 to $3.

The increase is effective November Fourth -- the day the county launches its new in-county bus service. It's also the day before the transit system observes the one-year anniversary of its 17-bus Atlanta express service.

Commission members say the express service is still a good deal for commuters, considering the costs of parking in downtown Atlanta, as well as costs for fuel and wear and tear on a vehicle.

A ten-ride ticket book is going up from $18 to $27, and a monthly pass is increasing from $72 to $100.

The extra money will help cover the cost of adding at least five buses to the system.
Officials say ridership has nearly tripled since the bus service started in November 2001.
