ATLANTA - A new state advertising campaign begins this week to promote the touch-screen voting machines that Georgia voters will be using for the first time next month.

The machines, which the ads claim are as easy to use as a microwave oven, will debut in all 159 counties during the November 5 general election.

The ads are targeted at the elderly and other voters who might be intimidated by computer-based voting technology. They will air through November 4 in Atlanta, Augusta, Albany, Columbus, Macon and Savannah.

State officials say the campaign, which cost about $500,000, will reach 98 percent of the adults in the Atlanta media market.
