Andy Griffith comes home

MOUNT AIRY, N.C. - If Mount Airy was ever going to have a traffic jam, today's the day. Andy Griffith is coming home. <br>

The 76-year-old actor who portrayed Sheriff Andy Taylor on The Andy Griffith Show will be honored today by dedicating a stretch of U.S. 52 as the Andy Griffith Parkway. <br>
<br>
On hand for the ceremonies will be Governor Easley, state transportation and local officials. <br>
<br>
One official says she expects the town's population of 86-hundred to double or triple today. <br>
<br>
Griffith hasn't made many official return visits to his hometown since leaving in the early 1950s. He hasn't officially returned to his hometown since June of 1957, when the town held Andy Griffith Day.
