FORT BENNING - About 200 Fort Benning troops have been redeployed from Kuwait to Pakistan as part of a three-week military exercise.
Col. Rick Thomas, spokesman for the U.S. 3rd Army in Atlanta, said Thursday that soldiers from the 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, were deployed to Pakistan to participate in ``Operation Inspired Gambit.''
``It's an exercise designed to promote a U.S.-Pakistani, military-to-military relationship to enhance an understanding between our two armies,'' Thomas said.
The Fort Benning troops join about 115 soldiers from Fort Stewart who have been sent from Kuwait to Pakistan.
Neither Pakistani nor American officials have said where the exercises would be held or where the troops would be based. Pakistan has had repeated incidents in which Westerners, particularly Americans, have been targeted since the invasion of neighboring Afghanistan.
