Tackle leaves 15-year-old with broken neck

MT. PLEASANT, TENNESSEE - A 15-year-old high school football player had surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center for a broken neck suffered in a tackle.<br> <br> Adam Andrews, a Collinwood sophomore, was injured Tuesday in a tackle along the sideline on the final play of his team&#39;s 22-0 junior varsity win over Mount Pleasant.<br> <br> &#34;He never moved after the hit,&#34; Collinwood coach Michael Statom said.<br> <br> Collinwood Principal Herb Luker and two assistant coaches were at the hospital in Nashville with Andrews&#39; family during the six-hour surgery Thursday. Doctors removed the broken vertebra and fused two others with the help of a bone graft from his hip.<br> <br> Emergency medical workers stabilized Andrews on the field, and he was airlifted to Nashville.<br> <br> &#34;Can he walk again after an injury like this? Some people have. We just don&#39;t know yet,&#34; Statom said.<br> <br> Collinwood&#39;s game at Huntland remained on Friday night&#39;s schedule.<br> <br>
