Albany St. rally falls short

FRANKFORT, KENTUCKY - Kentucky State scored touchdowns on third-quarter fumble returns by Timothy Vaughn and Brandon Fairley and held off a furious Albany State rally in the final 69 seconds to beat the Golden Rams 30-27 on Saturday. <br> <br> Vaughn returned his fumble 34 yards and Fairley ran 26 yards. The Thorobreds (2-5, 1-3 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) stretched their lead to 30-13 with 5:49 to play on a 4-yard run by Ira Barry. <br> <br> Then the Rams (3-4, 2-2) made their charge. Kerenski McGhee capped a 53-yard drive on an 18-yard run with 1:09 remaining as the lead dwindled to 30-20. <br> <br> Albany State came up with its sixth turnover at the Kentucky State 6, and after a 12-yard loss, Hosea Harris connected with Edward Harper on an 18-yard TD with 40 seconds to play. <br> <br> Albany State&#39;s other scoring came on a 25-yard run by Warin Major and a 2-yard run by Kawaskee Teemer. <br> <br> KSU got a 42-yard field goal from Scott Lambert and a 1-yard scoring run from Barry.
