Fort Valley St. shuts out Benedict

FORT VALLEY - Duron Croson ran for 83 yards and a touchdown as Fort Valley State remained unbeaten in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference race with a 15-0 victory over Benedict on Saturday. <br> <br> The Wildcats (6-2, 6-0) opened the scoring on Croson&#39;s 5-yard run midway through the first quarter and immediately added a 2-point conversion on a run by Chris Jacobs for an 8-0 lead. <br> <br> Fort Valley put the game on ice in the third quarter when Cecil Lester capped a 12-play, 56-yard drive on a 7-yard run with 1:59 left in the period. <br> <br> Benedict (1-6, 1-5) had only one threat, getting inside the Fort Valley 10 in the final period before losing the ball on downs. <br> <br> The Tigers netted only 224 yards, led by Marcus Walker, who hit on 7 of 15 passes for 71 yards and added 15 yards on eight carries.
