CARROLLTON - A 20-year-old Carroll County man was shot to death by deputies following a standoff at his home on Wednesday, authorities said.
The man was identified by the coroner's office as Victor D. Thompson Jr.
Chief Deputy Sheriff Brad Robinson said 911 dispatchers received a call from a man who said someone was at his residence threatening him with a rifle.
Deputies discovered that Thompson, who called 911 himself, was alone and threatened officers not to come closer, Robinson said.
``Officers attempted to talk the suspect out of the residence and were there about an hour and a half before the suspect came out of the house with a rifle and fired at least once,'' Robinson said. ``At which time sheriff's deputies shot and killed the suspect.''
Robinson said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
