Furman-Clemson soccer match canceled

CLEMSON, S.C. - A Furman-Clemson men&#39;s soccer match postponed after the highway death of a Paladins defender will not be played this season.<br> <br> The teams were supposed to play Oct. 16. However, freshman Philip Gray Griffin of Huntersville, N.C., was killed in an accident Oct. 11 as he and three teammates returned to campus.<br> <br> Furman returned to the soccer field this past Saturday with a 1-0 victory over the College of Charleston.<br> <br> The Paladins had hoped to reschedule the contest with Clemson. However, &#34;there was simply not a date that was agreeable to both schools,&#34; Clemson senior association athletic director Dwight Rainey said.<br> <br> Rainey upcoming conference tournaments and the remaining schedules for both schools made it difficult to go forward with the game.<br> <br> &#34;We have had a long series with Furman in men&#39;s soccer and we look forward to it resuming next season,&#34; Rainey said.<br>
