ST. MARYS - Union officials on Thursday said they're opposed to Durango-Georgia Paper Co.'s position denying severance pay to more than 500 workers.
The St. Marys paper mill is scheduled to close on Nov. 15, leaving about 900 jobless.
Larry D. Brooker Sr., a representative for the Paper Allied Industrial, Chemical and Energy Workers International Union said if negotiations don't resolve the disagreement, ``we will take them to court. We will pursue this in any legal avenue we have to.''
Under language in union contracts, only St. Marys Railroad employees and machinists' union workers will be eligible for severance pay.
