FAYETTEVILLE - A 37-year-old woman faces an arraignment hearing on charges including murder and homicide by vehicle in connection with a 22-mile police chase that ended in a bystander's death.
Fayette County Police spokeswoman Sergeant Belinda McCastle said today that Loraine McCrary of Jonesboro is scheduled to appear in Superior Court November 15th in connection with the death of 41-year-old Norman Charles Vicha Junior of Peachtree City.
Authorities say he was killed instantly when McCrary slammed head-on into the driver's side of his Crysler minivan July 27th as she fled police.
McCray - who was driving a Ford Explorer - was hospitalized after the accident. Her three children were injured.
Police say the chase began in Meriwether County after an officer attempted to stop McCrary following a traffic accident. Authorities say she sped away, leading police through Coweta County and into Fayette County.
McCastle says McCrary also faces charges including fleeing and attempting to elude an officer, speeding, two counts of reckless conduct and ten counts of forgery in the second degree.
A judge denied bond for McCrary, who is being held in a jail in another county where she continues to undergo medical treatment.
