ROME - Rescue workers say a pair of inflatable rubber bags saved the life of a Floyd County man trapped under a mobile home.

Donald Lindsey was found pinned under the home he was moving Saturday morning. Fire Department workers slid two large rubber bags, called Vetter bags, under the structure and lifted it off him.

Lindsay was in guarded condition Tuesday night at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tenn. He suffered 14 pelvic fractures.

``He probably would have gone into severe shock if he had stayed under there any longer,'' said fire Capt. Troy Brock.

When deflated, the bags can be as small as a man's hand. Rescue workers can place them under heavy machinery, dump trucks and tractor trailers to free trapped victims using an air tank. The bags also can be squeezed between machinery and inflated to open a space to free a person's limbs.
