AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Medical College of Georgia had received more than $3 million in grants for organ transplant research from an Atlanta-based trust.
The school is working to reduce the chance that organ recipients' bodies will reject their new transplants. Sometimes an organ donation is attacked by the recipient's immune system, making some transplants deadly.
The grant from the Carlos and Marguerite Mason Trust will fund a fellowship in transplant surgery, new equipment and renovations to a surgical transplant area.
