The First Downstream International Film Festival will be held July 18th-21st at Brenau's new Burd Performing Arts Center.
Festival Co-Founder, Michael Williams, moved the event from Dahlonega this year. The competetion was previously called the Dahlonega Film Festival.
"We were looking around North Georgia, and stumbled upon Gainesville one morning and just fell in love with it right away," Williams said. "We are very excited to be one of the first groups in Burd Auditorium."
Williams says 50-100 filmakers will compete in the festival, and expects anywhere from 2,000 to 5,000 people to attend.
Williams credits Gainesville's new look in attracting the festival.
"We've noticed that there's a lot of downtown revitalization that's gone on the past couple of years and really enjoyed the environment there."
Williams also notes that Brenau's new performing arts center was part of the draw.
"We are very excited to be one of the first in Burd Auditorium."
The festival is taking entries now through April.
