Georgia man charged with bigamy in Wisconsin

WAUSAU, WISCONSIN - A man accused of marrying a Wisconsin woman he met via the Internet even though he already had a wife and children in Georgia was charged Friday with bigamy. <br> <br> Jonathan R. Langley, 31, of Douglasville, Ga., appeared in Marathon County Circuit Court and was jailed on $2,000 cash bond. <br> <br> Langley, described in court records as a professional bounty hunter, faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted of the felony charge. <br> <br> ``It definitely is a very unusual case,&#39;&#39; said District Attorney Jill Falstad. ``And yet the report and information seem very clear that he had a wife in Georgia and he married another wife here.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> Langley and the 32-year-old Schofield woman were married by Marathon County Court Commissioner Doug Bauman on Oct. 29, court records show. <br> <br> The two met over the Internet in late July and communicated daily by the Internet and by telephone August through October, according to the woman&#39;s statement to police. <br> <br> Langley allegedly told her he was married once to a woman in Texas but he divorced her 10 or 11 years ago and they had no children. <br> <br> The Schofield woman told police that Langley talked early in their relationship about marrying her. <br> <br> He finally flew to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Oct. 25 and the woman picked him up, as they met face-to-face for the first time, court records show. <br> <br> Six days later, two days after the wedding, the woman&#39;s brother contacted her and reported that a background check by a friend in the state Justice Department showed Langley was married with two children in Georgia, records show. <br> <br> The Schofield woman told Langley to leave the next day and has since been granted an annulment of the marriage. <br> <br> Meanwhile, the Justice Department inquiry reached Langley&#39;s first wife a sheriff&#39;s department dispatcher in Douglas County, Ga. through a teletype bulletin. The bulletin was checked by a lieutenant who then informed the wife of the situation. <br> <br> A pretrial conference was scheduled Feb. 28 for Langley. He remained jailed after cash bond was set at $2,000.
