Discussion centered on 15 provisions of a policy proposal aimed at getting students to attend the right school even though district lines are changing because of new schools.
"The Board has decided," said Superintendent Dr. Dennis Fordham, "to determine the place of attendance based on residence."
"Children would go to school based on where they live."
Fordham said the board wants to establish a policy that encourages everyone to accept and follow the atttendance rules
Board members spent time looking at school district maps during their informal planning session.
A proposal for new district lines would draw more students from Tadmore District than the Myers District.
Dr. Fordham said a community advisory committee came up with the proposal and sent it to the Board this week.
Teaching Spanish to Hall County Elementary students was also a discussion topic.
Dr. Fordham said board members had discussed
elementary foreign language informally before.
First and Second graders are learning Spanish in Gainesville schools.
