Atlanta police officer charged with aggravated assault

ATLANTA - An Atlanta police officer has been charged with aggravated assault in a late night shooting in Riverdale, south of the city. <br> <br> Authorities say 28-year-old Darrin West was returning with friends from a birthday celebration in Buckhead in north Atlanta around 4:30 a.m. Sunday when he got into an argument with three other men in the car. <br> <br> Riverdale Police Officer Debra Smith says West was intoxicated when he pulled out his gun and fired a gun inside the car. No one was injured. <br> <br> She says the argument continued as the men returned to the home West shares in Riverdale with another officer. She says West fired five more shots outside the house and left before officers arrived. <br> <br> Atlanta Police spokesman John Quigley said West has been with the force since 1998. He has been relieved of his duties.
