Second defendant sentenced to life in robbery-slaying

COLUMBUS - The second of two men convicted of killing a 20-year-old waitress to rob her apartment was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday for murder. <br> <br> Christopher Michael Redwine, 23, and Randy Gene Smallwood Jr. were high on drugs and alcohol when they went to the home of Tiffani Leeann Miller the night of April 17, 2000, prosecutors said.<br> <br> The 4-foot-8, 86-pound woman was stabbed 14 times with a pair of scissors, then her throat was slashed before the two stole a lockbox that they thought held money, but instead contained only personal papers. <br> <br> Smallwood, 21, received a life sentence Jan. 4 after pleading guilty to avoid the death penalty. <br> <br> Redwine said he was innocent of murder. He said he trying to bind the woman&#39;s hands with duct tape when Smallwood suddenly hit her in the head and started stabbing her so viciously that he could not watch. Redwine said he went into the bathroom, and when he returned Smallwood was cutting her throat. <br> <br> Prosecutor Mel Hyde told jurors that hiding behind Smallwood was no defense because both men were guilty. <br> <br> ``Randy Smallwood is evil. Randy Smallwood is vile. Randy Smallwood is a slug,&#39;&#39; Hyde said. ``The difference is Mr. Redwine is stupid.&#39;&#39;
