LAWRENCEVILLE - Police are continuing to investigate why two teenagers were "hood surfing" in Auburn in an act that led the death of one of them.

17 year old Christopher Akins of Auburn fell from the hood of a pick up driven by 19 year old Christopher Nation of Arbor Drive in Gainesville Tuesday.

Akins had moments before jumped onto the hood on Dicovery Drive in Auburn.

Family members say earlier reports, based on information from Gwinnett County police, that Akins was from Gainesville were erroneous, although he does have relatives in Gainesville.

Cpl. Ray Dunlap of the Gwinnett County Police Department says Aikens jumped onto the hood of a pickup driven by Nation and when Nation made a turn, he jumped off, lost his footing, and fell, striking his head.

Akins died Wednesday at Gwinnett Medical Center.
