CORDELE - A brother and his sister, heading to Florida to visit relatives, were killed when their van was struck from behind by a tractor-trailer and pushed into a propane truck.

Traffic was rerouted off Interstate 75 in Crisp County for more than two hours after the tractor-trailer that struck the van burst into flames Wednesday just south of Cordele in the southbound lanes.

Carl Victory Stinnett, 72, of Ozawkie, Kan., and Vernia E. Blake, 63, of Nashville, Tenn., were killed.

The driver of the tractor-trailer also was slightly injured.

Troopers said the accident was still under investigation.

Crisp County Sheriff Donnie Haralson said deputies rerouted traffic off both north and southbound lanes of I-75 because emergency officials feared the propane truck would explode. Although the truck was leaking a small amount of propane, it did not catch fire.
