ATLANTA - Vogel State Park near Blairsville is one of a number of Georgia State Parks where officials say volunteers are making a difference.
Volunteers have become more and more active in Georgia's Parks since 1995.
The advocacy group, Friends of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites, includes a group that contributes to the upkeep of Vogel.
Volunteers staff the museum at the park and have raised money to by equipment for the park.
The organization has volunteers at 22 of Georgia's 63 State Parks.
It's president is Garland Reynolds who says "Lawmakers always want to build new state parks and they always want to build golf courses, but they don't want to fund maintenance and operations."
