AUGUSTA - Robby Horton, a 22-year-old professional Motocross racer from Martinez, said he could barely keep his eyes open as he rushed to the Augusta Regional Airport to make a 6:10 a.m. flight Monday.
He failed to remember he had a pistol in his carry-on bag.
``The next thing I know, I'm sitting in a room with lights above me being questioned,'' Horton said after his release from jail on a charge of possessing a deadly weapon at a public gathering, a misdemeanor.
Horton was trying to make a Delta flight to Arizona to test drive a new motorcycle. Before leaving his home, he grabbed a book bag. He said he didn't see his 9mm Ruger pistol inside.
``It was an honest mistake,'' he said. ``I didn't even know it was down there.''
A Feb. 21 court date has been set.
