Money for pet license plates would help dogs, cats

ATLANTA - The Humane Association of Georgia is proposing a pet license plate that would generate money for the care of animals. <br> <br> The secretary of the group - Carolyn Danese - says the one-time $25 fee for the plate would be used to pay low-cost spay and neutering services and education. <br> <br> She says the money would help cut down on the thousands of animals being dumped every year at shelters. <br> <br> The tag has been bottled up in the Legislature&#39;s Motor Vehicles Committee for years. Committee Chairman Bobby Parham says he plans to bring the idea to a vote next week. <br> <br> The bill still would have to pass both the House and Senate if it clears committee. It would have to be signed by the governor and be put to a popular vote on the ballot in November. <br> <br> The design hasn&#39;t been decided. Danese says the association would sponsor a contest and ask children in the state to draw a plate. <br> <br> The Humane Association is a coalition of shelters, humane societies, rescue groups and individuals.
