GAINESVILLE - The ladies took the honors Thursday night at the 35th Annual Gainesville College Foundation meeting.

Dinah Wayne was named this year's recipient of the Distinquished Alumni Award.

Involved with restoration and preservation of historic Flowery Branch, Wayne led the way to state grants and worked to restore the vintage Flowery Branch rail depot.

Jane Eve Wilheit added the Distinquished Service Award to her many honors.

She was recognized for her years of community service as a Girl Scout leader, Gainesville Board of Education member, Junior League president, and member of the Arts Council.

The Gainesville College Foundation named new trustees and set a new contribution goal of $425,000.

The trustees are Patty Chambers, returning as a trustee, Cathy Hardner, Van Neese, Spence Price and Allison Westmoreland.

College President Dr. Martha Nesbitt said her school had an edge of excellence because of foundation support.

"Thanks to you and others in this community and Northeast Georgia," said Dr. Nesbitt,

"Gainesville College offers opportunities to many students to pursue college who otherwise would not have the opportunity to do so."

Dr. Nesbitt said one of those is a house wife whose family has seen tough economic times, including a bankruptsy due to lost income.

The student's goal is early childhood education teacher.

"Thanks only to the fact that she could receive a Foundation scholarship for her tuition, she is enrolled at Gainesville College," Dr. Nesbitt said.

"Think what a difference this scholarship is going to make."
