CUMMING - The heavy rains from earlier this week caused a dam in Forsyth County to leak. A two inch gash was discovered in the Pine Lake Dam in Cumming.
A gas line that also ran through the dam had to be shut off so that repairs could be made. Approximately ten feet of water was drained off of the lake.
Three homes in the Pine Lake neighborhood had to be evacuated, however no-one was injured.
Two local roads, Kelly Mill Road and Pine Lake Road, had to be closed for the repairs to take place. The 20-year-old dam holds an approximately 18 acre lake.
For about two years, county officials have been taking estimates to fortify the dam.
