GA 400 widening could go on the fast track

GAINESVILLE - Georgia transportation officials are considering a recommendation to fast track the widening of a portion of Georgia 400, including a stretch in Forsyth County.<br>
<br>
Accroding to a published report, a consultant to Georgia's transportation superagency recommended using $16 million to add one lane in each direction from McFarland Road to Haynes Bridge Road.<br>
<br>
The added lanes could help traffic flow on the congested highway by as early as 2005.<br>
<br>
The Georgia Regional Transportation Authority study panel is also considering express bus lanes and intersection upgrades on 400.<br>
<br>
Officials are still pondering ways to pay for the proposed work.
