ATLANTA - A Fayette County man accused of killing his wife, who disappeared five years ago, was freed Wednesday after his parents posted a $100,000 bond.

Jim Watson, 38, was jailed Jan. 15 when he was charged with the murder in the death of Beverley Watson.

Bond is rarely granted to murder defendants in Georgia. Superior Court Judge T. Jackson Bedford Jr. set the property collateral bond on Monday after being satisfied that it was enough to ensure Watson returns for trial.

Beverley Watson disappeared from her home in January 1997. Her bones were found in March 1999 on a south Fulton County farm.

In August 2000, Watson settled a wrongful death suit filed by his wife's family seeking to prevent him from collecting any insurance money from her death. Watson agreed to allow all the funds to go to the couple's two children.

The murder trial could begin in June.
