Phone service restored

GAINESVILLE - Phone service has been restored to a part of downtown Gainesville that was left without service Wednesday afternoon after a construction crew struck a line.

Repair crews worked into the night to restore service to an area that included Centennial Elementary School, Gainesville Middle School, city school board offices and the school system's maintenance and transportation shop.

BellSouth District Manager Paul Chambers wasn't sure Wednesday how many customers were affected.
