Siemens, HealthSouth Corp. to build all-digital hospital

NEW YORK - German electronics and electrical engineering giant Siemens AG has agreed to a multiyear partnership with HealthSouth Corp., a provider of outpatient surgery, diagnostic imaging and rehabilitative health care services. <br> <br> Under the pact, Siemens will be the primary technology provider for the HealthSouth Medical Center, currently under construction in Birmingham, Ala. <br> <br> HealthSouth, which is based in Birmingham, broke ground on the facility in December. <br> <br> Siemens said Thursday that every patient in the &#34;all-digital&#34; hospital will wear a Siemens &#34;wellness monitor&#34; that will monitor the patient&#39;s health status and immediately notify a clinician if a patient has a problem, showing the patient&#39;s exact location. <br> <br> Siemens also will connect each hospital bed to the Internet, allowing for video conferencing with physicians or family members, and providing security monitoring to ensure confidentiality. <br>
