Jack Shannon Harmon

Obituary Date: Thursday, February 19, 2015
After a long and courageous fight with Alzheimers, Mr. Jack Shannon Harmon (84) of Sky Lake Community in Sautee-Nacoochee, GA, passed away quietly on the morning of February 19, 2015 at 4:45 AM with family at his bedside. Jack was raised on the Southwest side of Atlanta, GA, by Newton Judson & Susie Harmon of Dill Avenue and graduated Brown High School in 1950. Jack served honorably in the Korean War in 1951-52, was a member of the famed 293rd Army Band serving in Tokyo, Japan. After being honorably discharged from the war, his interests turned to stunning young lady from West End and Brown High School as well, Miss Helen Hinson. They were soon married and began a courtship that last 61 years. Jack worked for over 33 years in the Tariff Bureau of the Southern Railway Association in downtown Atlanta and during their 40 years in Atlanta were members of the Indian Creek Baptist Church Decatur, First Baptist Church of Atlanta, Roswell Street Baptist and Johnson Creek Baptist in Roswell, where at each one, Jack was an instrumental part and active member of the church orchestras. His musical talents keep him busy with fill in "gigs" throughout his time in Atlanta and after retirement in 1999, He and Helen retired to Sautee-Nacoochee and the lovely Sky Lake Community. For them it was heaven on earth, the place they always wanted to live. God richly blessed this Union and now, though temporarily separated, their love continues until such time as they are reunited once again. Mr. Harmon is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 61 years, Helen Hinson Harmon, one son and three daughters; Son Michael Shannon Harmon, Beaufort SC, his wife, Lynda Camp Harmon and their daughter, Joanna Michelle, Daughter Julie Harmon Thomas of Adairsville, GA, her husband Jeremy Kyle Thomas, their sons Steven Russell Bennett and Michael Brian Bennett and daughter Sarah Elise Thomas, Daughter Rebecca Harmon Womack, Simpsonville, SC, her husband Robert Daniel Womack, their sons Mathew Adam Womack and Andrew Judson Womack, and Daughter Cathy Harmon Nolen, Simpsonville, SC, her husband Blair Elliot Nolen and their son, Jack Elliot Nolen.
