Hot-shooting Appalachian shocks Arkansas
Even in its home state, Arkansas can't win on the road. Freshman Donald Sims scored 24 points off the bench Saturday including 10 in a row in the first half as Appalachian State defeated Arkansas 74-67 on a neutral court ringed with red-clad Razorbacks fans.

Savannah State hires Robert Wells as head coach
Savannah State hired Benedict College defensive coordinator Robert Wells was named as head coach on Saturday. Wells replaces second-year coach Theo Lemon, who was fired in November.

Gladiators fall to Pensacola
Derek Nesbitt notched two assists to bring his total to 28 on the season and climb closer to the league lead in assists and Jon Awe scored his third goal in the last two games, but it was not enough as the Gwinnett Gladiators fell to the Pensacola Ice Pilots 6-5 Saturday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.

Chestatee coach Russ Triaga admits there are few things that leave him speechless. But after watching Parker Smith pour in a career-high and school-record 52 points Friday night in a 89-76 win over Johnson, even Triaga had trouble finding words to describe his senior leader.

Lady Knights get first win over Chestatee
Johnson girls basketball coach Michael Youngblood has been preaching doing the small things to his team all season. His young Lady Knights finally listened Friday night and came away with 53-44 overtime win over Chestatee at the Johnson gym. It was their first win of the season after losing several close games early in the year.

Haymore shoots North Hall past Johnson
After watching an 11-point lead dwindle to four points, North Hall boys basketball coach Benjie Wood needed someone to step up in the Trojans' Region 7-AAA game against Johnson Thursday night. Senior Josh Haymore answered the call. Haymore hit three consecutive 3-pointers and six in a pivotal second quarter to propel the Trojans to an 83-57 rout of the Knights.

Mercer gives Auburn a scare in loss
Rasheem Barrett had 18 points to lead Auburn past Mercer 68-59 Wednesday night. Auburn pulled off the victory despite a shorthanded bench with freshman center Boubacar Sylla out with an ankle injury and sophomore forward Lucas Hargrove out with a broken hand.
