A Lula man was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison in connection with sex crimes against a child.
Northeastern Judicial Circuit District Attorney Lee Darragh said Anthony Giessert, 32, was convicted by a jury after a three-day trial for one count of aggravated sexual battery and two counts of aggravated sodomy, The conviction came after about one hour of deliberation.
Superior Court Judge Lindsay Burton sentenced Giessert to two life in prison sentences concurrently, as well as a third consecutive sentence of life with 35 years to serve and the balance on probation.
The case involve the sexual abuse of a young girl while she was between six and eight years old.
“The horrible sexual abuse of a child so young, too graphic to describe here, is most heinous," Darragh. "We appreciate the verdict of the jurors and the sentence of the court, as justice was accomplished for the young victim and society.”
Assistant District Attorney Rachel Bennett was the lead prosecutor in the case, and Assistant District Attorney Lori Pearson also participated.
Giessert was arrested on July 17, 2019.
