A teenager was killed in a machinery accident Friday afternoon at a rock quarry in Jackson County.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office said in a Saturday morning social media post the 16-year-old boy was from Jefferson County, GA, near Augusta.
Deputies were dispatched at about 1:12 p.m. to the Vulcan Materials Rock Quarry on Valentine Industrial Parkway in Jefferson. Authorities believe the teenager was operating the machinery when it overturned, pinning him underneath. The teenager died from his injuries.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was called at the time of the accident. An investigation was underway as of Saturday morning.
The boy's name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
